Osanna's Past

Osanna yesterday

At the beginning of the seventies  Osanna  started out as a Neapolitan Rock Band composing and performing its very own kind of Italian Progressive Rock.

Danilo Rustici  (guitars)  and  Lino Vairetti  (vocals), both founders and composers of the band, together with Elio D'Anna (sax & flute), Massimo Guarino (drums) and Lello Brandi (bass) were the first lineup of the group.

In 1971 They were the winners of the Festival d'Avanguardia e Nuove Tendenze which was at the time the very first Rock Festival in Italy showing the most creative and original italian acts.

In the same year their very first album L'Uomo  was released establishing Osanna's success in the Italian charts and it became a mile stone in the Italian Rock's history. The album in fact won the prestigious Italian Award Premio della Critica Discografica for its powerful music far away from stereotypes.

Osanna's unique sound and theatrical look continued to evolve throughout the years into a audiovisual phantasmagoria journey characterized by the band's impressive albums:

L'Uomo
(1971  Fonit Cetra) The amazing debut record of the Band.
Preludio, Tema, Variazioni e Canzona.
(1972  Fonit Cetra) Soundtrack of the movie Milano Calibro 9.
Palepoli
(1973  Fonit Cetra) Considered the Band's masterpiece it was the first and only Italian Rock Opera.
Landscape of Life
(1974  Fonit Cetra) Last album of the Osanna's original lineup.

After five years of nonstop touring, recording and performing the Band needed some time out so Osanna stopped all their activities at the end of 1975.

In 1978 the Osanna came back with a new lineup:

Lino Vairetti (vocalist), Danilo Rustici (guitars), Massimo Guarino (drums), Enzo Petrone (bass) e Fabrizio D'angelo (keyboards).

This new collaboration gave birth to a new album Suddance (1978 CBS) which won another Premio della Critica Discografica (Italian Music Award), thanks to the capturing rock, fusion and ethnic atmospheres of the new Osanna.
